Questions and feedback: /information

Write in English or Russian, whichever you prefer. Ideas and feature requests are better posted in the app’s ideas section: other people can see them, vote for them and follow what has already been done.

What to include

To sort things out faster, please attach:

  • the app version (Audio Converter menu → About Audio Converter) and your macOS version;

  • the format and parameters of the source file — they are shown in the file card on the right: container, bit depth, sample rate, bitrate;

  • the conversion settings you picked: format, bitrate, sample rate, processing;

  • the error log if the conversion finished with warnings: a log button appears in the sidebar afterwards;

  • a screenshot if the question is about the interface.

Requirements

macOS 26.0 or later. A version for iPhone and iPad is on the way.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the converted files go?

To the destination folder picked in the sidebar. Until one is set, Start offers to choose it. The layout is up to you: keep the original folder structure, put everything into a single folder, or sort into “Artist” and “Artist/Album” folders.

Why does the app ask for access to a folder?

It runs in the macOS sandbox and only sees what you choose yourself. Chosen folders are remembered as bookmarks, so it does not have to ask every time. If you move a folder or connect a different drive, access has to be granted again.

Which formats are supported?

Input: anything macOS can read, plus WavPack, Monkey’s Audio (APE), Musepack, TTA, Speex, Shorten, AC3, DSD (DSF and DFF, DSD64 up to DSD1024), tracker music (MOD, XM, IT, S3M) and the audio tracks of video files. Output: AAC (.m4a), ALAC (.m4a), MP3, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, Opus, Ogg Vorbis. DSD is read only — the app does not write DSD.

Why is the output sample rate lower than the one I chose?

Encoders have their own ceilings, and the app picks the nearest allowed rate instead of failing: AAC tops out at 48 kHz, ALAC, WAV and AIFF at 192 kHz, and Opus always runs at 48 kHz. FLAC is encoded by libFLAC and accepts up to 384 kHz. That is why DSD64 (352.8 kHz once decoded) becomes 176.4 kHz in WAV rather than 192.

The spectrogram says a file was “made from a lossy source”. Is that certain?

It is a conclusion drawn from the cutoff frequency: files re-encoded from MP3 or AAC lose everything above a characteristic frequency, while true lossless reaches the limit. The sign is reliable but not absolute — a quiet or deliberately filtered recording can look the same. The cutoff and its frequency are visible on the spectrogram, which opens in a separate window, zooms and exports to PNG.

The loudness of the result is not what I expected

Check the Loudness section. Normalization brings tracks to an EBU R128 target, per track or per album, at −23, −18 or −14 LUFS. It can be written as ReplayGain tags, leaving the audio untouched, or applied to the samples themselves, which really does make the file louder or quieter. In Simple mode this is the “Even out loudness” checkbox: it brings every track to −14 LUFS by changing the audio, with clipping protection.

I can hear the equalizer in the player — does it reach the file?

Yes, the curve is applied to the result as well, and the headroom for boosted bands is calculated automatically, so nothing overloads. What you do not hear in the player are fades, the mono downmix and silence trimming — those happen during conversion.

How do I split a disc image with a CUE sheet?

Add the CUE sheet (or the image together with it) and the app will cut it into tracks, taking names and tags from the CUE. If the names come out garbled, the text encoding was guessed wrong: you can choose it by hand, and the choice is remembered for that CUE.

Can I convert without opening the window?

Yes. Copy files in Finder and press ⌃⌥⌘C, or use the command in the menu bar icon — the job starts with your current settings.

What is the difference between Simple and Pro?

Only which settings are visible, never the result. Simple keeps the format, the quality level, the destination folder and the plan for the batch on screen. If something in Pro still changes the result, Simple lists it in a separate block, and one tap resets it.

How do I move my settings to another Mac?

The app settings have export and import: everything is saved as a single file and loaded back the same way.

How does the app update?

The App Store build updates through the App Store. The build downloaded from the website checks for updates itself and offers the new version.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion, analysis and tag writing all happen on your device. The only things that go out are the artwork lookup (artist name and track title) and whatever you post yourself in the ideas section. The privacy policy has the details.
